Practice Philosophy

Dr. Leight's background is in traditional psychotherapy, but he uses an unconventional approach to help clients with a wide range of personal challenges. Using a "transpersonal" and solution focused model of practice, Dr. Leight works with his clients to develop a trusting, safe, nonjudgmental and comfortable environment to explore issues from an emotional, physical, intellectual and spiritual (non-religious) perspective. Helping clients to understand themselves as more than an ego and physical body, Dr. Leight uses proven here-and-now, solution focused methodology to get in touch with one's authentic sense of self and help clients to live their lives with a sense of honesty and integrity toward that core self. The work is not about changing who you are, it's about letting go of who you are not. A solution focused approach is designed to address the challenges you face today and lay the groundwork for a happier more stable tomorrow.

Having expertise and training in human connection and intimacy, Dr. Leight works with clients to discover deeper meaning in their relationships. Using his doctoral work in sexology Dr. Leight is able to help clients feel totally comfortable sharing the most private details of their lives and help break through barriers to truly enriching and rewarding intimate relationships.

Psychotherapy with Dr. Leight is all about moving beyond the blocks, barriers and pain to a place of growth and empowerment thereby improving the quality of life, life's experiences and life's relationships.

Frequency and Number of Visits

Clients often want to know upfront how long therapy will last. This is the unanswerable question. If you are coming in to deal with a sexual dysfunction or a transient problem, resolution is often accomplished in 2 to 6 visits. However, more complicated issues may involve long-term work lasting months to years. Generally, Dr. Leight recommends an initial 6 to 10 weekly visits with a subsequent reevaluation. After this initial phase of therapy recommendation for termination, additional weekly visits or, in some cases, biweekly or monthly visits may be suggested. Dr. Leight is focused on helping you reach your goals and not some arbitrary time frame. Dr. Leight will NEVER allow therapy to continue beyond its natural life. Once goals are reached or if there is a natural plateau warranting a break in the process, Dr. Leight will question your need and/or willingness to continue. If at any point Dr. Leight feels he is unable to help you further, he will refer you to a trusted colleague who may be better suited to take care of you..
